More than half of students are now paying more than £100 a week for rental accommodation, up from just over a third two years ago.

But discerning students are less concerned about bills than they are about fast internet. The research found 83 per cent look for a fast connection when looking at properties, more than the 63 per cent who sought household bills included with rent.
Other considerations included a double bed, deemed important by 56 per cent of students, while 61 per cent were looking for somewhere with good storage space.
